Wind at Longview Manor
In the summer of 1972, our band (Wind) and all of its family (i.e. roadies, girlfriends, guy friends, etc.) moved to a small town outside of Washington, D.C. We rented a 360 acre farm outside the town of Dickerson, Maryland...much to the interest of the townspeople. The house, seen in the album cover, was build in the 1700's and expanded in the mid-1800's. The stone walls were approximately 1 1/2 feet thick. The view out the back was amazing of the Blue Ridge mountains, the driveway to the road was about a half-mile long. And,...there were snakes in the basement and bees in the walls. We were truly rich.
The band members continued to consist of Matt Shealy, Drew Nesmith, and me. The special family consisted of my wife Sharon, Drew's wife Marsha, John Tomlinson, Cary Altman, and a host of others that came and went.
In the fall of 1973, we recorded "Longview Manor". (Longview Manor was the name of the farm, due to its location high on a hill with panoramic views. See the picture on the left.) Drew played all of the percussion and sang backup. (He should have sung all of the leads, but had been in Georgia when the songs were written.) Matt played bass, organ and sang backup. He also sang lead and played acoustic guitar on "Hiding in Plain Sight".
